Distinguished Fellow Program Salutes Him for Going “Above and Beyond” In Service to Community and the Profession (Springfield, MO)- Ron McCall has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. He practices at Springfield Neurological and Spine Institute, is a graduate of the United States Air Force Physician Assistant program, and has been a physician assistant (PA) for 24 years. He has been practicing with Dr. Thomas Briggs for the past seven years. Mr. McCall has served as clinical instructor for physician assistant students during rotation in orthopaedic surgery, has experience as a battlefield medicine instructor as well as cardiac life support instructor. His volunteer activities include service in a free foot care clinic as well as medical aid work at the Springfield Marathon. Ron and his family have also hosted foreign exchange students from Germany, Norway, New Zealand, and Taiwan. Ron McCall earned the recognition due to his outstanding contributions to patient care and the profession during his years as a physician assistant (PA). He also demonstrated significant dedication and involvement in the community of Springfield. All Distinguished Fellows of AAPA have demonstrated exceptional contributions to their communities and a commitment to all aspects of health care. Physician assistants are licensed health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physician. PAs deliver a broad range of medical and surgical services to diverse populations in rural and urban settings. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and prescribe medications. AAPA is the only national organization representing physician assistants in all medical and surgical specialties and is one of the largest medical societies in the U.S. Founded in 1968, the Academy works to promote quality, cost effective health care and the professional and personal growth of PAs.
